Charities and pressure groups will soon be able to track how they are viewed by people from ethnic minorities thanks to a newly launched research service from think tank nfpSynergy.

The Ethnic Minorities Charity Engagement Monitor has been set up to explore and monitor the shifting attitudes of people from ethnic minorities to charities, campaigns and causes.

The twice-yearly results will come from surveys of a sample of 800 18 to 75-year-old UK residents drawn from Asian, Caribbean, African and possibly European minority backgrounds.

“The sector as a whole is concerned about access to services and information for the various minority ethnic populations living in the UK,” said Chris Greenwood, joint managing director of nfpSynergy. “We also know that a variety of opinions exist as to how adequately charities and other NGO’s represent and serve these populations.

“Many suspect that we may well comprise overly white, middle-class institutions – reflected in terms of those working for us and the audiences we reach.”

Charities interested in the service should sign up before the next wave of fieldwork in November.
