Stakeholder Research (262.24KB) In these tough economic times, charities need to ensure their activities are relevant and effective. Stakeholder research is an essentia tool to understand what your key audiences think about your organisation and your work. It can help you to:
- Improve services and products
- Explore the environment in which your charity operates
- Gain insights into why your supporters donate – and what puts them off
- Ensure your organisation is meeting the needs of beneficiaries
- Provide an evidence base for your charity’s strategic decisions
- Map your key audiences
It might be a quick-turnaround piece of research about a particular issue or service with a small group of stakeholders, or it might be a full 360 degree stakeholder audit to inform long-term strategic planning.
Whatever type of information or insights you need, we can help. At nfpSynergy we have extensive experience conducting stakeholder research to inform strategic planning, brand development, service delivery, and commercial opportunities.
Case Studies:
Informing partnership working - Trafford Housing Trust
Trafford Housing Trust was able to develop its key partnerships for service delivery through stakeholder research. In order to get the information they needed, we conducted depth interviews with a wide range of organisations in the Northwest, including charities, public emergency services, and local government
Informing organisational development - Moorfields Eye Hospital
We conducted research with trustees, staff, patients, research partners, charities and commercial organisations to inform strategic planning for the next 10 years, including issues as diverse as facilities management, research partnerships, and staff development.
Informing marketing and communications - British Council
We explored perceptions of the charity and its work in comparison to other organisations in order to help refine the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy. By hearing what trustees, staff clients, potential partners and leaders in the field had to say, the British Council was able to learn from others, explore potential areas for growth, and test their strategic priorities.
We have a range of options through which you can get the information and insights you need on the stakeholder groups you’re interested in.
At the end of the research, you will receive a fully-referenced report including thematic analysis, key verbatim quotes with an executive summary and we will also present the findings to an internal audience (e.g., SMT, trustees or staff)
In order to help charities embark on this journey we have developed 3
packages of stakeholder research to help you get the best out of your
research spend;
1. fast-turnaround executive consultation
2. defined piece of research with a specific group
3. full 360 degree stakeholder consultation

These are examples as an initial starting point for discussion and are indicative of the types of stakeholder research projects we have done for clients in the past. Any discussion with you will begin with a candid conversation about your organisation’s current needs. In response, we will put together a bespoke proposal and cost quotation.
